Have you ever already known what you were going to do… and still asked for advice anyway? Not because you wanted the truth but because you wanted confirmation. We’ve all been there. We ask, we listen, we even hear the right answer… but deep down, we’ve already decided. And when truth confronts us instead of agreeing with us, something in us pushes back. That’s where the danger begins. Because the issue is not that truth isn’t available the issue is what we do when it confronts us.

In this continuation of The Cost of Compromise, we return to 1 Kings 22 and step deeper into the pattern that led to Ahab’s downfall. He did not lack access to truth. He knew where to find it. Yet he surrounded himself with voices that affirmed him and rejected the one voice that spoke for God. This message reveals a progression every man must recognize. First, how can a man be surrounded by lies and become offended by truth? Second, how God will not force truth on a rebellious man, but will allow him to walk in the deception he chooses.
And third, how when that continues long enough, truth is no longer just resisted, it is attacked. Ahab didn’t fall in a moment. He drifted step by step, voice by voice, decision by decision. What began as selective listening became full rejection, and eventually, opposition to truth itself.

Micaiah stands in contrast. One man. No compromise. No adjustment to please the crowd. While others spoke what was popular, he spoke what was true, even when it cost him everything. And for that, he was struck. This is not just Ahab’s story; it’s a pattern. And if we are not careful, it becomes ours. Because the same truth that will save a man will also expose him.

So the question is not, “Am I hearing the truth?”
The question is, “Am I willing to submit to it when it confronts me?”

Because when truth offends you… Your response reveals you.
